Emotions

Challenge
Conservative masculine role models are harmful in many ways. Statistics show that:

— 3 out of 4 suicides are committed by men

— 95% of the prison population is male

— 78% of domestic violence is caused by men

These figures reflect the intense societal pressure men face, despite being positioned at the top of the hierarchy in a patriarchal system. There is little room for failure or vulnerability, which reinforces unhealthy emotional suppression. To address this, a new narrative for modern, feminist men is necessary.

Approach
Emotions is an ongoing research project at Konstfack University in Stockholm, focused on masculinity and the societal norms that hinder emotional expression. The project explores how visual communication can be used as a tool to convey emotions and seeks to develop a new vocabulary for expressing male vulnerability and emotional depth.
